Naval Museums in general share the same aim as the US Navy’s flagship museum to collects, preserves, displays, and interprets historic naval artifacts and artwork to inform, educate, and inspire naval personnel and the general public. Naval museums have the ability to strongly present their stories and works in true living museum in retired Battleships and Troop boats. A recent moving CBS News story showcases the devotion and passion when 93 year old WWII veteran Ernie Andrus, ran 3,000 miles across the United States in an almost three year campaign to illustrate what many feel is a large unsung hero of World War II -- a ship he served on called an LST, or landing ship tank. This craft is how the allies got heavy equipment onto beaches, and as a living museum it’s located in Evansville, Indiana.
In Honor of Mr. Andrus, we are featuring the LST Memorial as our Naval Museum. Visit the LST Memorial Stie
